Privacy Policy
Denning is a baby tracker that runs primarily on your iPhone or iPad. It exists to help you keep notes during the early weeks of your child's life. We've tried to keep what we collect, store, and share to the minimum necessary to make the app work.
Summary, in plain English
- The app works without an account. If you don't sign in, nothing leaves your device.
- If you sign in, your data syncs across your devices and (optionally) with a partner you invite into the same household.
- We store your email address, the entries you choose to log, and any photos you attach. That's it.
- We don't sell your data. We don't use third-party advertising. We don't track you across apps or websites.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time. When you do, your data is permanently removed.
What we collect, when, and why
If you don't sign in: nothing leaves your device. All log entries, journal entries, milestones, and baby profile data live in on-device storage (SwiftData) and are not transmitted anywhere.
If you create an account: we collect the following so that sync works:
- Email address. Used to sign you in via a one-time magic link sent to your inbox. We don't store passwords.
- User content you log in the app. This includes: feed, sleep, diaper, and milestone entries; journal entries (title, body, mood); baby profile information (name, date of birth, sex, feeding preference); and any photos you attach.
- An anonymous device identifier. Stored in your device keychain so syncs from this device can be tracked independently of syncs from a partner's device. Cleared when the app is deleted.
- A household identifier. A random ID grouping you and any partner you invite, so you both see the same data.
We do not collect:
- Your name, address, phone number, or any contact info beyond the email you use to sign in.
- Your IP address beyond what is necessary to deliver requests (these are not retained for analytics).
- Any health data integrated with Apple Health or third-party services.
- Your location.
- Behavioral analytics, third-party SDK telemetry, or advertising identifiers.
Where data lives
If you sync, your data is stored on infrastructure operated by Supabase, a backend service we use as our database and authentication provider. Photos you attach are stored in Supabase's object storage. Supabase processes data on our behalf under their own privacy policy and DPA.
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest (Supabase Postgres encryption).
Sharing with a partner
You can create a "household" and invite a partner. When they join with your invite code, they can see and edit the same baby profile, log entries, journal entries, and photos that you can see. They cannot see anything from before they joined unless that data was already shared in the household.
You can leave or rotate the invite code at any time from Account settings.
How long we keep data
For as long as you have an account. If you delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete Account, all data tied to that account (entries, journals, photos, profile, household membership) is permanently deleted from our database. Backups are rotated within 30 days. After that, no recoverable copies remain.
Households with no active members are automatically removed. Inactive accounts (no sign-in for 24 months) are flagged and may be purged after notice.
Your rights
You can:
- Export your data. Settings → Data → Export journal / Export tracker data. Files are written locally; nothing is uploaded for the export.
- Delete your account. Settings → Account → Delete Account. Permanent.
- Stop syncing. Sign out from Settings → Account. Local data on your device is preserved.
- Ask for a copy of what we hold by emailing the address below. We'll respond within 30 days.
Children's privacy
Denning is intended for adult parents and caregivers logging data about their own infant. We do not knowingly collect information directly from anyone under 13. The information you log about your child is treated as the data of the parent account that created it.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything material — what we collect, who we share it with, how long we keep it — we'll update this page and bump the effective date at the top. For substantive changes we'll also surface a notice in the app on next launch.
